Welcome to the new website of the
Sonning Common Parish Council
You have been automatically forwarded.
Sonning Common is a very busy village and you would be amazed at the diverse range of activities undertaken by your Parish Council through a number of committees and working parties. There are too many to do justice in this short introduction but I will try to give you a flavour of what we do on your behalf.
Key to our operation is our Finance Committee and I am sure you will be well aware of the work carried out by our Planning Committee in response to an ever changing housing landscape.
I would like to highlight some of our current working parties.
The diligent work carried out by the Neighbourhood Plan working party has thus far been successful in preventing runaway housing development in the village. Clearly this is on-going and the hard working team of volunteers will continue to address new challenges as they arrive.
The Memorial Hall Field behind Kidmore End War Memorial Hall was donated to the Parish Council and the working party is well advanced with their plans to provide additional recreational facilities for the village.
I think that we would all agree that the Village Centre would benefit from a makeover and, of course, it won’t be cheap. The working party is developing a detailed plan. Watch this space!
The aim of the Environment Working party is to maintain and enhance Sonning Common’s ecosystem. Examples include maintenance of the village pond and the acquisition of an area of woodland in Old Copse at the end of Woodlands Road.
Not to be forgotten are our Sonning Common and Kidmore End Village Halls which are now being successfully managed by the Parish Council and will be the subject of continued investment and improvement.
All of this latterly has had to be continued and developed whilst adhering to COVID regulations. Like everyone else, these have been challenging times for the Parish Council. Please ensure you adhere to government rules and keep safe.
